Confirmation is a Sacrament which continues the process of new life which begins in baptism.

It is a confirming of the presence of the Holy Spirit, which is already present in our lives.

As such it is both a stirring up and a seal of the gifts of the Holy Spirit and a reminder that conversion is an ongoing process ‘til Christ be formed in us’ (Galatians 4:19).

The Bishop of Edmonton visits Emmanuel each year (usually during the Season of Advent) to administer the Sacrament of Confirmation for both children and adults from Church and School.

Confirmation is a both a stirring up and sealing with the gift of the Holy Spirit originally given at Baptism, when the Bishop lays his hands on the candidates and anoints them with the Oil of Holy Chrism.  After Confirmation the candidates often receive holy communion for the first time.

Each year we usually begin Confirmation preparation sessions for both children and adults after the autumn half term.  This is very much a taster of Christian basics and part of an ongoing and continued pilgrimage of faith throughout life, surrounded and enfolded by God’s love.

It is never too late to be Confirmed.  If you are interested in Confirmation – either for yourself or for your child – please do no hesitate to speak to one of the clergy.
