OUR PROGRAMME FOR LENT 2019 AT EMMANUEL

ASH WEDNESDAY

06 MARCH 2019

Holy Eucharist with imposition of ashes at Emmanuel Church at 12.30 pm

Joint Sung Eucharist with imposition of ashes at St Cuthbert’s Church, Fordwych Road at 7.30 pm

Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent when, at the Holy Eucharist, we receive the sign of the cross in ash on our foreheads, as we remember that it is God who had made us, that we depend on God for all that that we have and that God loves us with an everlasting love.

LENT GROUP

WEDNESDAYS IN LENT AT 8 PM AT THE VICARAGE

starting 13 March

As part of Churches Together in Hampstead we shall be following the Church of England Pilgrim Course unit of the Creed as we explore more deeply the central tenets of our faith as we proclaim them each Sunday morning.

This is an accessible and thoroughly enjoyable programme as we seek to deepen our faith and grow in our knowledge and love of God

STATIONS OF THE CROSS

SUNDAYS IN CHURCH AT 6.30 PM

Join us for a thirty minute quiet and meditative evening service as we walk our fourteen oleograph Stations of the Cross from Jesus’ trial before Pontius Pilate to his being laid in the tomb and experience that love divine, which loves us into salvation.

It is that ‘Via Dolorosa’ which is the key to the world’s salvation and the the beginning of the eternal Exodus from death to life.

Some Prayers as we prepare to walk the way of the Cross

Compassionate God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy before he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he was crucified.  Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace, through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Eternal God, in the cross of Jesus we see the cost of our sin and the depth of your love:  in humble trust may we place at his feet all that we have and all that we are, through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Amen.

Almighty Father, look with mercy on this your family for which Our Lord Jesus Christ was content to be betrayed and given into the hands of sinners and to suffer death upon the cross; who is alive and glorified with you and the Holy Spirit, one God. now and for ever.  Amen.

LENTEN LUNCH

SUNDAY 07 APRIL

AFTER THE 1030 SUNG EUCHARIST

Join us for a simple Lenten lunch of bread, cheese and soup as we collect for Bishop Sarah’s Lent Appeal 2019  – HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT tackling modern day slavery in its many and varies forms.  The idea of a Lent lunch is a simple meal is had rather than our usual Sunday roast or a meal in a restaurant and we give to charity what would have spent on a more lavish meal.
