OUR PROGRAMME FOR LENT 2018 AT EMMANUEL
Holy Eucharist with imposition of ashes at Emmanuel Church at 12.30 pm
Joint Sung Eucharist with imposition of ashes at St Cuthbert’s Church, Fordwych Road at 7.30 pm
Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent when, at the Holy Eucharist, we receive the sign of the cross in ash on our foreheads, as we remember that it is God who had made us, that we depend on God for all that that we have and that God loves us with an everlasting love. For that reason it is perhaps a happy coincidence that this year Ash Wednesday falls on Valentine’s Day.
WEDNESDAYS IN LENT AT 8 PM AT THE VICARAGE
EVERYONE WELCOME – an informal course on how we grow our ministry of welcome and hospitality at Emmanuel and tangibly demonstrate our inclusive core values.
We warmly encourage people of all ages to come to this course as we nurture and grow the life of the family of God in this place.
SUNDAYS IN CHURCH AT 5 PM (APART FROM 11 MARCH)
Join us for a thirty minute quiet and meditative service as we walk around our fourteen Stations of the Cross and experience that love divine, which loves us into salvation.
Compassionate God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy before he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he was crucified. Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way of the cross, may find it none other than the way of life and peace, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
SUNDAY 18 MARCH AFTER THE 1030 SUNG EUCHARIST
Joins us for a simple Lenten lunch of bread, cheese and soup as we collect for the Diocese of London’s Lent Appeal 2018 – TACKLING HOMELESSNESS TOGETHER. The idea of a Lent lunch is a simple meal is had rather than our usual Sunday roast or a meal in a restaurant and we give to charity what would have spent on a more lavish meal.
ONLINE OR BY APP…
… and finally, we do realise how full and busy so many people’s lives are at Emmanuel.
There is one very easy to make your Lenten journey with the help of your iPhone, Android, iPad or on your screen at work.
Live Lent takes you on a six week discipleship journey in 2018 through the Gospel of John, exploring what it means to be a witness.
For each day from Ash Wednesday to Easter Day there is a short reading, a pause for reflection and prayer, and an idea for a simple action that will enable the light of Jesus to shine through our everyday lives.
